Course Description:

“HIV Case Management 101: A Foundation Part 2 – Module 1: Substance Use and HIV”  is a 90 minutes audio webcast with accompanying powerpoint slides. This training is a continuation of the HIV Case Management 101: A Foundation (pre-requisite). This module provides foundational information required for case managers to serve their clients effectively focusing on substance abuse.

 

 

Course Objectives:

  • -       Participants will be able to explain how often substance use screenings should occur
  • -       Participants will be able to identify at least 2 criteria for Substance Dependence and at least 2 criteria for Substance Abuse
  • -       Participants will be able to use the SAMISS to screen for substance use

 Instructor Bio:  Ann Dills is an HIV Case Management training specialist and has been working in HIV/AIDS since 2000. She started her career in Kentucky coordinating a youth HIV prevention and peer leadership program and providing HIV prevention and education for college GLBT programs. She moved into HIV client services programs after that, working not only with a general HIV+ population, but also focusing specifically on individuals with substance use disorders. Prior to moving to Texas she worked as a Medical Case Manager in an infectious disease clinic. She has been at DSHS since 2007 and has been creating and developing the Texas DSHS HIV Case Management training program since then.
